Workout 6/13: Michael

Workout: "Michael"
3 Rounds for Time of:
800m Run
35 Back Extensions
35 Sit-ups
(Time: 24:50)

*Not so good. This workout had me sucking air big time this morning. I think I took those 800s at a pace that was a bit fast for me. I was trying to estimate my pace based on previous runs, but I most definitely overshot. The final two 800s were killer, and I had to take small breaks during it. I was bummed with that, but now I know that the pace needs to be reeled in a bit. It wasn't meant to be a Time Trial 800, so I'll learn from my mistake.

Note: I think I've found my big event for next year...

Workout 1/11: Modified Michael

"It's my birthday, and I'll cry if I want to..." And CrossFit almost made me cry this morning; at least it made me grunt a few times. Sorry to my co-workers who had to hear that. I am officially 30-something, which means for the next 9 years I will have straight and crooked numbers after that initial 3. *Whistling "Happy Birthday to me" in my head.

(Time: 23.06)

The two previous Michaels that I reported were as Rx'd, but as of the new year, I decided to focus on doing the modified WODs from Brand X Martial Arts. So, it was hard to compare, but I think this will be much better for me and my progress at becoming more physically fit. I'll still be sore, but at least I won't kill myself either.*Now there's a poster I'll have to get for my track team. Courtesy of Lon Kilgore. My coaching career starts this coming Monday...I'm so nervous, but excited too.

Workout 12/3: Michael Redux

Wow! Time flies! I cannot believe that it is December already. July doesn't seem that far away (other than the fact that it is about 9 degrees outside instead of 90). November hardly seems like it existed (that month flies by so fast, why is that?). And before I know it, Christmas will be upon us.

This year, December is going to be extra special since Evie is now at the age where she can be completely involved in Christmas. On Saturday, we started reading through an Advent book and lighting the candles on the Advent wreath. This book is so cool! Each page has a beautifully designed page with a door that the kids can open. Inside each door is a new part of the Christmas story, so each day you go back and review the story and then open a new part. Evie is so excited to open the next day's door! It's so cute! I suggest you all check this book out, especially if you want to start a new Christmas tradition that brings the focus back to the REAL "reason for the season."

So, what else does this mean? Well, I have three weeks to meet any of my goals for the year. Most of my goals have been accomplished or nearly accomplished. However, I want to make sure these goals last all the way until January 1. That means I have three weeks to stay active, start running again, and continue watching what I eat. Oh, but my body wants to go into hibernation mode. CrossFit will get me out of that nice cave of comfort called the bed.

CrossFit: Michael
Warm-up (Thanks to Kim for posting her warm-up on her blog, it gave me new ideas)
Three Rounds for Time of:
800 m Run
50 Back Extensions
50 Sit-ups
(Time: 35.45; 30 seconds faster than 2 weeks ago...yay!)
Okay, so I wasn't in this much pain! Thank goodness that CrossFit doesn't have us working on crazy machines that contort one's body...see this article for an interesting view on massive GloboGyms.

Workout 11/19...Getting Ready for Thanksgiving

This is how I felt after today's workout! This week is chock full of wonderfully painful workouts since Thanksgiving dinner is just around the corner. Yes, I know I should still approach the holidays with an inkling of moderation in mind, but when it comes down to it, I don't always have the self-control that I need. Since starting the Zone, my body craves sugar like no other. Sugar has always been my weak link, so when starting something that restricts sugar intake to nearly nothing, my body goes into this "gimme, gimme, gimme" mode. I'm like the Cookie Monster before he became health conscious in the age of political correctness. Saying this is like my way of asking you all to keep me accountable. We'll see how it worked.
