Workout 5/20: Shoulders on Fire!

I had no idea what to call this workout since it's not one of the CrossFit Girls nor a CrossFit Hero. One thing it WAS was pure torture on the arms and shoulders. As one person posted on a chatboard, "It addressed everything I suck at." Okay, I don't suck at all of these things, but it did try me and push me. Anything that makes your arms shake uncontrollably at the end must be making you a little bit stronger. Also, this was supposed to be for time, but when you have to share a pull-up bar, time becomes impossible to get accurately. My arms appreciated the break though (thanks Tanya)! So here it is:

Workout: Shoulders on Fire!
For Time:
50 Push-ups
30 x 65# Sumo Deadlift High-Pulls
35 Dips
20 x 25# Weighted Pull-ups
15 Handstand Push-ups
(Time: N/A)*No, my weighted pull-ups were not this fun looking. In fact, some people were concerned for my family jewels when I did mine, but I finished unscathed. If you weigh 25 pounds, you can be my next partner...any takers? LOL! Maybe a weight vest or backpack is a better idea. Photo courtesy of CrossFit Portland.

Workout 2/2: Row, Pull-up, Ring Push-up, SDLHP

I'm not sure if I addressed this before on my blog, but I have this fear of three simple letters..."DNF." For anyone who is into running, these letters may be familiar to you. They stand for "Did Not Finish." I loathe the sound of that expression, and I do not like the idea of having "DNF" placed behind my name in any area of my life. Thankfully, I have never had it applied to my name in any running races, even the infamous 2007 Chicago Marathon. But I don't think this term is only applicable to sports. "DNF" is a hideous term that can be applied to nearly every area of life. We all make commitments, and we must strive to finish each of those commitments. We have relationships that we do not want to see "DNF" placed after. We have goals that we do not want to see "DNF" placed after. We have responsibilities that we do not want to see "DNF" placed after. So in all you do and all you are, strive to "finish" it. And don't just finish, FINISH STRONG.

CrossFit in the CPD Special Tactical Building:
21-15-9 Rep Sets of:
Row (calories)
Sumo Deadlift High Pulls
Pull-ups
Ring Push-ups
(Team Time: 33'33")

*I finally got to take my friend Brett. Brett, I hope you are recovering nicely. I think we both sat in church yesterday with very sore bodies. I could see him cringe when he sat down and empathized with him in my soreness/pain. In fact, I have decided to take the week off from strenuous workouts. My body is sick and sore, and it needs to recover. I am going to take my own advice that I wrote recently. I think this workout was even ill-advised since I had been battling an interesting throat thing for the past few days. Now it's really time to take off and let my body recover. My focus for the next week will be on getting control of my eating. Sweets have dominated my palate; time to kick the sugar habit again.

Workout 1/24: Modified Tanya

So, I found this wonderful WOD on CrossFit Pierce County's website. I figured since my co-worker's name is Tanya, so we'd do her namesake. It's was a arm/shoulder/back intensive workout, so we had rubber arms for the first few periods of the day. I think I'm done working my arms for the week, so I am ready to do more running-based workouts. Good thing tomorrow is a Track & Field Clinic where we have been told to come prepared to be active. Maybe my arms will thank me for a day of rest. Too bad Coach Gio has warned me that Saturday's workout is going to be a doozy.

CrossFit: Modified Tanya
15-12-9 Rep Sets of:
55# Sumo Deadlift High Pulls
Ring Dips
Pull-ups
55# Push Press

*So, ring dips are hard...my arms were shaking all over the place. So after trying ring dips each round and pounding out as many as I could, I swtiched over to Bar Dips. I could have up-ed the weight, but there's always next time.

Workout 12/7: Run, SDHP, Thrust

Aren't intentions good enough? No? Oh man, well, at least my intentions got me through 3/5 of the workout. I had a blast though; today I recruited my first workout partner with CrossFit. My co-worker, Ms. Turner-Ayala, joined me as we tackled one of the harder workouts I have done in a long time. Yes, all CrossFit workouts are hard, but I thought I'd crumble today. I am already looking forward to this workout again, because I want to do it in completion.

CrossFit: Run, SDHP, Thrust
Five Rounds for Time of:
400m Run
65# Sumo Deadlift High Pulls x 21
65# Thrusters x 21
(Made it through 3 Rounds: 27.44)

*Had I completed that as listed, I would have been late for my morning teacher meetings. It's the first time that I was actually thankful for professional development meetings.
